Latvians to get their WSC fix in Round Ten at Stelpe 12/13 August

05/08/2017

Next weekend 12/13 August see the first of three back-to-back meetings as round ten of the World Sidecar Cross Championship travels to Latvia.

It will be the start of an exhaustive month for the crews who will need to pack everything they might need, including spares, fuel and food into their transporters.

Stelpe sits South of the  capital Riga in the direction of the Lithuanian border, and has a big sidecar cross band of followers. The Latvians have embraced this sport, and boast a five-times World Champion driver in Kristers Sergis, and a three-times Champion passenger in Kaspars Stupelis.

Expect huge support for Stupelis and his current driver Janis Daiders. They sit sixth in the table. Likewise, there is a Latvian passenger in the shape of Elvijs Mucenieks holding down the third wheel of title contender Valentin Giraud.

The Championship is at a fascinating stage, with three crews very much battling at the top of the table.

Moggers in Austria saw Giraud/ Mucenieks close the gap at the top to within thirteen points of leaders Etienne Bax/Nicolas Musset, with ten times Champion Daniel Willemsen/Robbie Bax a further fourteen points back in third.

With five rounds and ten races remaining, there are still two-hundred and fifty points up for grabs, so this title chase is wide open, with everything to play for.

Behind these superstars of the sport, is a glittering array of teams all fighting for the top eight slots. Britons Stuart Brown and Joe Millard lead the charge, ahead of the Belgian/Latvian team of Vanluchehe/Kurpieks, the aforementioned Daiders/Stupelis, Dutchmen Koen Hermans/Kenny Van Gaalen, and the Czech Cermak brothers.

Only thirty-three points split these five crews, so there will be “standing on ceremony” when battle begins..

With the usual qualification process on Saturday, and two hugely significant races Sunday,

Stelpe will deliver a fantastic weekend of action. Make sure you keep up with events as they unfold here on www.fimsidecarcross.com!
