2018 Sidecar Cross des Nations and Quad Cross des Nations brings record star line-up to Denmark
Barely has the dust settled on an extraordinary 2018 world championship season, than the best sidecar cross crews in the world descend on Slagelse Denmark over the weekend of 22/23 September for the annual inter-team competition known as the Sidecar Cross des Nations.
Based on the long-standing solo motocross team competition, competing nations field a team of three sidecar crews to do battle, with total points for each nation counting towards success. Consistency is absolutely the name of the game, and all team members ideally need to score points if they are to have any hope of winning this prestigious event.
The Netherlands team, traditionally strong, and winners of the Gold Medal in 2017 under the leadership of Etienne Bax and Nicolas Musset, will be formidable again this year. Bax and Stupelis once again have high-profile assistance in the form of Daniel Willemsen/Robbie Bax and world runners-up this year Koen Hermans and Nicolas Musset. Second team home last year were France, and again field a strong force headed by Valentin Giraud and Johnny Badaire.
Whilst Belgium enjoys the services of the new World Champions Marvin Vanluchene and Ben Van Den Bogaart, they will have to count on Vanluchene's fellow countrymen Arne Dierckens and Davy Sanders for support. The entry list for this fascinating event is already bursting at the seams, so spectators and TV viewers will be treated to an entire weekend spectacle of racing.
The event also encompasses the equivalent contest for the European Quad-Cross Championship, but for the first time last year in Italy, teams were included from the USA, Australia and Argentina. That was an eye-opener for the Europeans, as the American team dominated the event, each USA rider winning his race. They brought a previously unseen style and flair to the racing, which will certainly be on show again on their return this year. Tom Brown, Jeff Rastrelli and Chad Wienen will be coming to Denmark intent on repeating their success from 2017.
The entire race programme will be broadcast LIVE, with expert commentary and views on www.fimsidecarcross.com courtesy of the WSC TV Crew, with financial support from supporters and organisers making this possible.
