Koen Hermans to defend title with Dion Rietman alongside

17/12/2025

Having recently attended the FIM Annual Awards Gala in Lausanne, Switzerland, 2025 World Champion Koen Hermans has committed to defending his first title, but it will be without five-times veteran passenger, Ben van den Bogaart. The search for a replacement was not easy, with Koen only prepared to “go again” with the right person in the sidecar. That problem has now been solved by the misfortune of a fellow countryman and championship rival.

Justin Keuben and Dion Rietman had a huge crash in the Rudersberg finale, re-breaking the femur damaged in Portugal 2024, and causing serious wrist damage with shattered bones needing major surgery. Such is the nature of this injury, 2026 is now out of the question for the popular Keuben. Despite this crushing blow to his career aspirations, Justin remains philosophical, but realistic about the situation. He is therefore resigned to a complete season out. That having been decided, Dion took the option to team up with Koen to assist in his title defence in what will possibly be Koen’s final season. Even though he is still at a relatively young age, Koen has been racing since he was a child, having been a product of the Dutch youth sidecar programme.

We can only offer our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy for Justin, whilst wishing him every bit of good luck for a speedy and complete recovery. It is to be hoped the wrist will repair sufficiently to enable him to continue his illustrious career in the sport he loves, with so much unfinished business at stake. One thing is for sure, he will not be losing touch, and we will certainly see his smile and energy around the paddock in the new season.

As we move into 2026, there will be many more announcements and stories to whet our appetites for yet another stellar year.

The scheduled twelve-round calender promises much, and the clock is ticking, so keep an eagle eye for new information and all other news as it becomes available on www.fimsidecarcross.com along with all our social media outlets.
